Assistant manager Kevin Nicholson has given his thoughts as City prepare to kick-off their Carabao Cup campaign away at Walsall on Tuesday evening.
City will hope they can have a run as good - if not better - than last season when they reached the fourth round of the competition, and hope to build on Saturday's opening day win at St James Park against a hotly-tipped Rotherham United side.
"The competition is brilliant. Of course it's the next game, but for us now we have a squad that means players will be given an opportunity, some through necessity and others who have worked hard and deserve that.
"This is a great game for us to go and show we are what we say we are. This is a chance for everyone to show their value and their worth."
