Supporters of a certain age may remember the Cowshed primroses which ran along the grass bank in front of the original Cowshed stand from the 1970s.
The primroses departed SJP back in 2001 when the stand was replaced with the version that is still in place and is currently sponsored by Nevada Construction.
Over the years the memorial garden at the back of the stand has been host to primroses, and now over sixty plants have been added in an area behind the away end thanks to Exeter City Supporters' Trust trustee Peter Ferlie, and the support of some wonderful Grecians.
Speaking about bringing Primroses back to SJP, Exeter City Supporters’ Trust trustee Peter Ferlie said: “When out and about in Devon this Spring I saw lots of primroses in the hedgerows and it struck me that it would be good to use the grass away behind the away end to plant up primroses.
“I put a call out to the Senior Reds amongst others, to see if anyone had any in their garden.
“Supporter Roy Everett contacted me with the news that he had some and would be kindly offered to take cuttings and then bring those in for us to plant up, which we did last month.
“Sixty plants were planted, and some are already in bloom. We are looking forward to them self-seeding so the whole bank will be covered in them over the years.
So next time you head to SJP, make sure you go take a look!
