Reg Loram's granddaughter at the St James Park

Exeter City Football Club Museum was delighted to host a visit by Linda and Mark Stump from Adelaide, Australia.

Linda (pictured) is the granddaughter of Reg Loram who played in goal for City against Brazil on 21 July 1914 at Fluminense FC, Rio de Janiero.

Linda and the Museum shared information and photographs of Reg. The Museum presented Linda with a copy of Aidan Hamilton’s book ‘Have you ever played Brazil’.

Reg, a farmer’s son from Alphington, was the only amateur in City’s tour party to South America. When first team goalkeeper Dick Pym got injured on the Argentinian leg Reg took his chance. He played in all three games in Brazil including what was Brazil’s first ever match.

With the First World War breaking out during the return from South America and Dick Pym’s continuing good form, Reg never played for the first team again. His three games in Brazil were his only first team appearances.

Reg continued between the sticks for the Reserves, captaining the side. He was also trainer at the Club during the 1930s.

Reg Loram died on 26 December 1978.
