Exeter City Women will be looking to return to winning ways as Billericay Town are the visitors to St James Park on Sunday afternoon, 2pm.
It has certainly been an eventful summer for The Blues, with a change of manager and sixteen new signings. Former Gibraltar manager Adrian Parral took over from the departing Josh Oatham in August and he inherits a vastly changed squad from last season. Ylenia Priest, Mel Espinosa, Breon Grant and Flo Jackson all arrive from Chatham Town, with Tegan Attree, Ella Houghton and Grace Hickman signing from Under 21 sides Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic respectively.
Shauna Munnelly, Aimee Watson, Kara Fordjour, Nia Evans, Jessica Francis-Weir and Lesha Swaby all arrive with tier three experience whilst Captain Beau Parker makes a welcome return from long term injury. Valentine Pursey made an impressive impact at Hashtag United last season and has begun this season in goalscoring form, Bonnie Horwood adds experience to a young squad after her summer signing from Ipswich Town.
Billericay have made a strong start to the season, a demolition of Gwalia United on opening day (4-0) was followed by narrow defeats to much fancied Watford and Hashtag United. Home wins over Cheltenham Town and Plymouth Argyle came either side of an away draw at MK Dons, a heavy defeat at home to Ipswich Town (6-0) found a perfect response last weekend as Parral’s side knocked out Oxford United in the league cup on penalties.
Abbie Britton’s side has suffered back-to-back league defeats against Oxford United and AFC Wimbledon, with last week’s League Cup defeat to Ipswich Town adding to a tough spell. However, fixtures against Billericay, Plymouth Argyle and Cheltenham Town this week are all games that Britton will have targeted for points at the start of the season and the Grecians will be confident of having a successful week and climbing back up the Southern Premier Division.
Player to Watch
Maddie Biggs enjoyed a strong 2023/24 season as she struck sixteen times for Billericay. The former Ipswich Town striker settled in quickly to life at the New Lodge, hitting four on her debut against Plymouth Argyle in August of last year. Biggs has started the new campaign in equally impressive form, two goals on the opening day against Gwalia United were followed by a hat trick in the League Cup against AFC Sudbury. The Blues Number Nine will be one for the Grecians defence to watch this afternoon.
