Match Preview graphic for Exeter City Women v Gwalia United on Sunday, January 19 - 2pm / At Taunton Town FC

Exeter City Women return to league action this weekend as Gwalia United are the visitors to Devon.

Abbie Britton’s side have won their last three league games and will be keen to bounce back after their exit from the FA Cup last week.

Cygnet Healthcare Stadium, Taunton Town

This match was originally scheduled for January 12 at Coach Road, however with City drawing Sunderland at home in the FA Cup, the Gwalia match has been moved. Coach Road is unavailable for this date, and so we would like to thank Taunton Town for their assistance in helping us host this fixture.

The Opposition

Manager Fern Burrage-Male has departed as Gwalia manager over the Christmas break, with former Head of Bristol City Women’s Academy James Thomas taking over the role.

Tia Asker, Ellie Lake, Jessie Taylor, Shurima Vine, Isobel Newns, Maisie Miller, Kylie Nolan and Casi Gregson were all added to the Gwalia squad in the summer, offering a mix of experience and high potential. United also retained some familiar names with Thierry-Jo Gauvain, Chloe Lloyd, Laura O’Sullivan-Jones, Libby Piggott, Emily Poole and Ellie Sargent key performers in Cardiff City Ladies South West League One title success in 2023.

It has been a tough season for the South Wales side so far, they go into Sunday’s game with only one league victory in their last nine, that coming at home to struggling MK Dons back in October. Goals have been tough to come by, with only thirteen in the season so far. Cori Williams-Mills has hit nine goals, whilst the ever-dangerous Ellie Sargent has three.

George Hamill's thoughts

💬 "In the goalkeeping department you need 'keepers who are going to push each other, and I think we've got that now."

This week Goalkeeper Coach George Hamill sat down to share his thoughts on the Sunderland FA Cup game, his goalkeeping department and this Sunday's match ⬇️
