We are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Joel Colwill on loan from Championship side Cardiff City until the end of the season, subject to EFL approval.
The 20-year-old signs for the Grecians following his recall from League Two side Cheltenham Town, where he scored nine goals in 28 appearances for the Robins, as well as providing three assists.
A product of the Bluebirds academy, Colwill made his first team debut for the South Wales side in August 2023, before signing a five-year contract with the club. Colwill is also a capped Wales international having played at U16, U18, U19 and U21 level - making his under-21 debut alongside brother Ruben in a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein in September 2023.
Joel watched his new teammates in the 3-1 win over Oxford United in the Emirates FA Cup. and will link up with the side on Tuesday when the players return to training.
Manager Gary Caldwell said: "I met up with Joel and his agent last week, and he is someone we have been tracking for a while. Not only that, but other clubs have been tracking him as well so we are delighted to get him.
"When he goes on loan and does as well as he did he gets attention, and we're delighted Cardiff feel we are the right fit for him, and that he does too."
