Brazil takeover day at Bolton Wanderers match on January 4

Brazil takeover

Exeter City Football Club will be celebrating our special connection with Brazil with a ‘Brazil Takeover Day’ on Saturday, 4th January, at our fixture with Bolton Wanderers at St James Park.

The Grecians’ ties with the samba nation date back to 1914 when we faced Brazil in their first ever match during a tour of South America, and we are proud of our unique history with the five-time World Cup winners. Click here to find out more about our story with Brazil.

To coincide with the 110th anniversary year of the fixture, we will be kicking off 2025 by turning our sleepy corner of Devon into Rio de Janeiro for one day only, as we host a festival of all things Brazilian at St James Park – and hopefully the lads play like Brazil too!

From Cairpirinhas in the Fan Zone bar, to live samba music and performances, a chilly January day will feel like the height of a South American summer. There will be a taste of Rio on offer and we will have authentic Brazilian food and drinks on offer as well as Brazil themed merchandise in the Club Shop. Dignitaries from Brazil will be attending the celebration.

We will be handing out Brazilian flags to supporters across the stadium, and we will be encouraging everyone to wear something fitting for the tone of the day – perhaps a Brazil shirt, our limited edition Fluminense inspired third shirt from 2015, or even just something yellow!
