Phil Smyth to perform at SJP on Saturday!

Phil Smyth

We are delighted to have Phil Smyth performing at St James Park before and after Saturday's match with Shrewsbury Town - in honour of his late father and Grecian legend, Cec Smyth.

Phil's father Cec Smyth joined City from Distillery in Belfast and made 273 league appearances between 1962 and 1969 including 44 games when the club won promotion in 1964. Cec was a popular full-back, know for his consistency and giving his all - a real terrier on the pitch! Cec sadly died in Exeter on 7 November 2008 aged sixty-seven.

Phil will be performing in the fan zone pre-match from 1pm until 2:30pm and then post-match in the Centre Spot from 5pm until 6:30pm. Phil is a passionate singer/guitarist with over 30 years of experience of playing in bands and entertaining guests at weddings and events.

On Saturday Phil will be performing solo and will be looking to get the pre-match atmosphere going, performing fun, upbeat and sing-along anthems.

Speaking about performing at St James Park, Phil said: "Growing up, I heard all the stories of his time playing for the club, against George Best, Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Charlton, the promotion team of 1963, his dedication, and the passion he had for the game. Now, I get to follow in his footsteps in my own way, performing in the same venue that meant so much to him.

"If my dad were here today, I know he’d be beaming with pride, it's a full-circle moment, and one that I’ll cherish forever.

"Being able to perform at Exeter City feels like an incredible tribute to him and while I can't share this moment with him in person, I know he’s watching over me, smiling and proud of the journey I've made.

"I’m so thankful for this opportunity and for the support I continue to receive from everyone, especially my family. This one’s for you, Dad."

So make sure you head to the Park early, or stick around after the match to hear Phil perform!
