City staff help to clear Torquay pitch
Exeter City’s head groundsman Clive Pring (pictured far right) and his team are spending Friday working down the road at Plainmoor, helping the team at Torquay United to prepare the pitch for Saturday’s derby between the Gulls and the Grecians.
The Estates team at St James Park were thrust into the limelight last month when their monumental efforts ensured that the home game against Rotherham United went ahead as planned, despite the deluge in Devon. And now they’re lending a hand to their counterparts in Torquay, in the hope of staving off the wet weather once again.
It’s not the first time that they have joined forces this season – the team from Exeter also assisted their neighbours in the summer, by helping to mark out the pitch after the Gulls’ head groundsman had to go to hospital.
And Clive says that his team were more than happy to oblige once again, with the wet weather trying to wreak havoc on the teams’ festive fixture lists.
He said: “We’ve always enjoyed a good relationship with the other clubs in the local area, so it’s only natural that we should all pull together and pitch in where we can when the weather takes a turn for the worst.
“We’ll be doing our best to get the pitch clear in time for tomorrow, to try and make it playable – and then hopefully the boys can hold up their end of the bargain on the field by bringing back the three points to Exeter!”
Saturday's game is currently scheduled to go ahead as planned. However, bearing in mind the wet weather, please keep a regular eye on the club website for details. We will endeavour to make any announcements as soon as possible should the need occur.
