City midfielder delighted to pen permanent deal
Upon the announcement that Matt Gill has agreed a permanent deal to join Exeter City in January, the midfielder expressed his pleasure at reaching an agreement that will keep him at St James Park.
The Norfolk-born man is currently a Bristol Rovers loanee but will be released from his Pirates contract in order to sign for the Grecians in January.
“Tis gave me the opportunity to come back and play, and I’ve really enjoyed being back,” said Gill. “I’ve enjoyed the football and the environment that has been created here, and I’ve loved every minute of it.
“It has been an ideal scenario for me to come back to somewhere that has been familiar with lots of friendly faces around the place. So to sign a permanent deal is great – I thought it might never happen again and I’m really chuffed that it has.”
In particular, the permanent deal gives Gill and the team the opportunity to look forward together towards a promotion push for the rest of the season.
“It’s an exciting time – we’ve been on a poor run but this Christmas period and the New Year is a really good opportunity for everyone,” he continued.
“We’re only five points off the play-offs and ten points off the top – there are loads of points left to play for. We’ve got a lot of young lads in the squad that are desperate to do well, and they really enthuse everyone – there’s plenty to come from us in the second half of the season.”
