Sponsors and fans invited for a cuppa
It was a special mid-morning tea break for Jenny and David Sanders, the owners of Programmes Direct, a specialist company based in Exeter that deals in old, mainly football, match day programmes.
The company operate the ‘used programmes’ stall at St James Park on match days that is sited inside the old school railings in St James Road.
When Jenny, an ardent Tottenham fan whose favourite Spurs player of all time is Exeter City’s Director Football, Steve Perryman, asked the club if it was possible to have Steve sign some old Spurs programmes for her, Steve himself it was who came up with something even better.
The upshot was that Jenny and her husband David were invited to have a morning cup of tea with Steve at the club’s Cat & Fiddle training ground and so they were recently to be found enjoying a morning of chat and Spurs memories as the ran over stories and inside words about players, managers and matches with the Spurs legend and former captain. (Jenny even remembered to get her old Spurs programmes signed as well).
“It was such a special morning,” said Jenny, “We are just so grateful to both the club and Steve himself for being so welcoming and making it such a memorable occasion. Very few clubs would do that and it is what makes this club so different. Steve was a top player and off the field he proved to be a very nice person who made us feel very welcome.”
