A positive performance by England in their Group D opener against Italy ultimately wasn’t matched by the result – Mario Balotelli’s second-half winner sealed a 2-1 win for the Azzurri.
So that ramps up the pressure on Roy’s boys to get the right result against Uruguay. Technically a defeat to the South American side on Thursday 19th June (kick-off 8pm) wouldn’t eliminate England, but it would leave qualification firmly out of their own hands.
Los Charrúas were without Luis Suarez in their opening fixture, and they were outgunned by Costa Rica to everyone’s surprise. So they too will be desperate for a victory to take a step closer to the second round.
So as ever, we will be screening the game live in the Centre Spot at St James Park for our fans to enjoy all the drama together.
