Cover'd concert attracts sold-out crowd
EXETER CITY are pleased to report on a successful evening at St James Park on Saturday 8th August, following the Grecians’ Sky Bet League 2 opening day success over Yeovil Town.A sold-out crowd at The Park took in a performance by local band Cover’d, and the concert exceeded the expectations of all concerned.
Catering and Bar manager Rose Clace said: “Saturday evening’s event was a great success for us and generated a real buzz around St James Park.
“We’re trying to organise at least an event every month, and our desire to do that has been reinforced after Saturday’s success. The first band sold out, which we were delighted with, with it being all-ticket.
“There will be another band in town on both the 5th and the 12th of September for the games against Leyton Orient and Hartlepool United, and hopefully plenty will turn out again to support both the band and the club.
“Our Centre Spot (aka The Park) is used for conferences during the day and as an entertainment venue during the weekends, while similarly the upstairs Apple Suite also doubles for events on a match-day.
Even the Devon County Council (DCC) are now interested in using The Park as a conference room.”
Trust Membership Secretary Frank Sealey added: “Steve Gibbings, who is a promoter of bands but also a member of our ExEC-Club, was a key factor in Saturday’s success.
“In the build-up, we put all of our heads together and recognised that nothing was happening in the Park, and put forward the idea of helping to organise gigs at the venue.
“A couple of people at the club hold SIA badges, so we could host and promote such events with no risk to the club in terms of the legal side of things.
“Any takings on the door would pay the bands, while the club would collect the bar receipts, so it was a win-win situation.
“Rose thought was a brilliant idea, and we now have an additional five such events planned between now and Christmas. The band paid for itself as it was a sell-out, while the bar took what must have been a record in one outing, so it was a very successful night for us all round. Now we have proved what we are capable of as a venue.”
Elaine Davis, Trustee and Club Director, added her congratulations to all concerned: “Club staff and volunteers, supported by friends of the club, have been working together to brighten up The Park, which includes the Apple Suite upstairs and the Centre Spot downstairs.
“Last weekend’s success was well-deserved, and is the result of team-work, enthusiasm and a desire to improve our club for all who use its facilities. This is just the beginning – we really are ‘no ordinary football club’. Well done!”
