City Ladies with thumping win in Devon County Cup
THE GRECIANS are through to the semi-final of the Devon County Cup after beating Exeter & Tedburn Rangers LFC away. They ran out 7-1 winners in a game that had been postponed twice and on a pitch that was dodgy to say the least!
City started quickly and Vic Barter had a shot hit the crossbar in the first minute, but it was only four minutes in that they went ahead; a delightful ball from Dani Barr to Barter was fired in at the keepers’ far post. The lead was doubled on twelve minutes when Helen Kukor was brought down in the penalty area by the Rangers keeper. Kirsty Caunter stepped up to make it 2-0. Rangers did create a couple good chances and managed to capitalise on one, bringing the score back to 2-1.
Kukor then got on the scoresheet herself, and it took the Grecians another thirteen minutes after the interval to score again, this time through midfielder Dani Barr. Scorer turned provider when Barr played a lovely ball through to Kukor, who was left with nothing to do beyond rolling it around the ‘keeper.
Kirsty Caunter whipped a brilliant ball to the back post with Kukor heading the ball in the back of the net for number six, while City’s final goal came as another cross by Caunter was knocked in by Kukor for her fourth of the match.
City will now play Plymouth Argyle in the semi-final at home on the 17th of January. Kick-off will be 2pm.
