Ladies lose out in Keynsham
Exeter City Ladies had a day to forget when they lost 4-2 at the hands of struggling St Nicholas when they met on the 3G surface at the AJN Stadium in Keynsham. The Grecians went ahead as early as the first minute when Lola Garcia Sanchez broke clear and lobbed the advancing goalkeeper. However the scores were tied again before the game was five minutes old, as a lapse in concentration in defence allowed St Nicholas striker Megan Bloomer to round Exeter’s goalkeeper and slot into an empty net.
The hosts had to play a bulk of the game a player light, as Bloomer was booked for a poor challenge and received a red for the showing of dissent that followed.
However even with the numbers against them, St Nicholas were proving to be quicker to the ball and carving out the better chances.
Striker Jade Gamlin put the Nicks ahead for the first time shortly after the interval, after the Grecians had conceded possession in midfield, and then Gamlin drew a foul from goalkeeper Carley Barber in the box and converted the spot-kick to earn the hosts a two-goal cushion.
Exeter had a lifeline when a sliced clearance ended up in the St Nicholas net for an own-goal, cutting the deficit in half.
However the hopes of a fight-back were ended when debutant Laura McGlone pulled the trigger from 25 yards and found the top corner, sealing the match in stoppage-time.
