Striker given award for fine finish at Rodney Parade
Exeter City forward Graham Cummins was awarded the Exeter City’s Goal of the Season award for 2014/15 for his fine effort away at Newport County AFC.The Irishman’s goal, which came shortly before half-time, combined terrific team-play with a wonderful finish. Goalkeeper Christy Pym’s strafing kick was chested into the path of Matt Grimes by fellow midfielder Liam Sercombe, and in turn Grimes picked out the forward on the left flank. Cutting inside, Cummins lined up his defender before bending a shot past goalkeeper Joe Day and into the top corner on the far side.
City supporters voted in their hundreds from a shortlist of ten goals, and Cummins’ strike ultimately rose to the top of the pile.
Graham had two goals in the shortlist – his other was his strike away at Cambridge United, in which he rounded off a lightning-pace move for the Grecians, netting the equaliser en route to a first win of the season for City.
Tom Nichols, Arron Davies and Matt Grimes also all had two goals on the shortlist, while Liam Sercombe and Ryan Harley each had a sole strike in the running.
