Charity football match raises more than £1,000 raised for Adam Stansfield Foundation

Great Western Railway match total raised with generous donation

More than £1,000 has been raised for the Adam Stansfield Foundation thanks to a charity football match which took place on Sunday.

The game at Exmouth Town’s Southern Road ground saw a team of Exeter City supporters take on Great Western Railway staff from Exeter St David’s station, with match subs and a prize draw raffle after the game helping to collect around £540 in total.

Great Western then generously offered to match that sum, taking the overall amount raised to well over a £1,000.

The match was a competitive game, with Callum McBrayne giving the City team the lead as he chested a half-cleared corner down on the edge of the box before firing a sweet first-time shot into the top corner.

However, Great Western got back on track as one of their central defenders headed home a free-kick at the back post and they took the lead just before half-time with a well-taken penalty.

City equalised 15 minutes into the second half as Aiden Moyle scrambled the ball home from close range after a free-kick had been played into the six-yard box. However, the City players only managed to convert one of their penalties in the shoot-out and ended up losing 4-1 on spot kicks.
