04/03/2008: Dean Moxey rescues a point for promotion chasing Grecians
On March 4, 2008, Exeter City were pushing hard for promotion from the then Blue Square Premier and managed to stretch their unbeaten run to ten games as Dean Moxey rescued a point in snowy conditions at Broadfield Stadium. Moxey struck home in the 80th minute to further solidify City’s claim for a play-off place as the game finished in a 2-2 draw. The Grecians started the game in excellent fashion as they looked to breakdown the Town defence early on. City took the lead as Bradley Thomas clumsily brought down City’s Richard Logan on the edge of the 18-yard area and Rob Edwards struck a sweet free-kick past Danny Knowles in the Crawley goal on 13 minutes.
With a mid-table Crawley side looking to impose themselves on the promotion chasing Grecians, they hit back just six minutes later as Ollie Allen was on the end of some good build up play to finish from close range.
As the tie remained delicately poised going into the second half, the away side were dealt a huge blow after Danny Seaborne was adjudged to have brought down the impressive Jon-Paul Pitman. Referee Michael Bull pointed to the spot to allow Allen to step up and claim his second goal of the match.
With City facing their fifth defeat of the season Crawley continued to threaten on the break, until Ryan Harley’s free-kick found Moxey on the edge of the penalty area who struck a low shot past Knowles to send the 300 strong City travelling support into a frenzy.
