Changes to services at St James Park station this Saturday

There will be changes to the match day services at St James Park station and Polsloe Bridge station this Saturday due to Exeter City and Exeter Chiefs both playing at home.

The unavoidable change is caused by the short platform at St James Park. With greater demand on the service, longer trains will be in use which cannot safely stop and guarantee that all passengers needing to get off at St James Park can do so.

Exeter City supporters will therefore need to get off at Exeter Central, and exit via the North Road exit at the back of the station, then walk along New North Road towards John Lewis. At John Lewis turn left in to Sidwell Street and follow the road up to Old Tiverton Road which will be signposted ‘Exeter City Football Club’. The walk should take around 15 to 20 minutes.

The services affected, and not stopping at St James Park are:

Pre-match:

  • 12:21 from Exeter Central, which would normally arrive at St James Park at 12:23
  • 13:21 from Exeter Central, which would normally arrive at St James Park at 13:23

Post-match:

  • 16:49 from St James Park to Exeter Central
  • 17:20 from St James Park to Exeter Central
  • 17:49 from St James Park to Exeter Central

Other trains will run and stop at St James Park. However, please be aware that they will be busy.

Currently the changes are also scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 3, due again to both Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City playing at home. We will keep you informed, should any more changes arise.

Fans are welcome to make use of the Centre Spot bar this Saturday if they want to wait for the service to resume, with Manchester City vs Leicester being shown on the big screen.

Leaflets with details on the changes and a map of the route will be available from Exeter Central and the ambassadors at St James Park. On the back of these leaflets will be the opportunity to win a pair of First Class tickets, by filling in the form.

Network Rail are currently exploring options to extend the platform at St James Park station to avoid this disruption of the service in the future.
