Exeter City youngster Jack Sparkes says he is really pleased with how he and the team have started the season but says they have got to keep their foot down and keep progressing.
The Grecians are unbeaten so far in League Two, winning five and drawing two of their opening seven matches. Jack has featured in the last four league games, helping the club to victories over Morecambe, Mansfield and Carlisle United in recent weeks.
“I am really pleased with the start and it is even better that we are winning,” said Jack. “It is nice to get a rhythm in my game where I am playing at the moment every week, but I have just got to keep my foot down and hopefully keep progressing.
“As a team, we are just trying to build momentum throughout the season and the more wins we get, the more confident we will be stepping onto the pitch.”
That confidence will be put to the test this weekend though as a Leyton Orient team, fresh from promotion from the National League, head to St James Park having settled to life back in the Football League well.
"Yes it will be a tough game, but I think every game, as we have seen this season, has been a tough test," said Jack. "The games have been close and you could call them both ways, but I think if we focus on ourselves then, it is a bit cliché, then we should do the business.”
Jack has also been asked to play a slightly new role this season at left wing-back. His first-team appearances before this season have normally come in a left midfield role, but he says he knows the position of wing-back well from his academy days and is more than happy to play there.
"I think during my time at the academy I was put in a lot of different positions whether that be full-back, winger or wing-back," he said. "I enjoy it and I think that suits me better because I can show that I can defend and I can attack at the same time so for me to play there, I am more than happy to.”
