💬 Steve Hale: "He has got in the forward’s face very quickly and he has shown that bravery to stand big and block that ball."

Exeter City goalkeeping coach Steve Hale gave an insight into his first season at St James Park and picked his 10 best saves of the season.

Choosing the top five saves from Jonny Maxted and the top five saves from Lewis Ward - both who have played crucial roles in City's successes this campaign - Steve said he was proud of how the shot stoppers had adapted to life at St James Park.

Talking about Lewis' best save, a brave block at the back post against Crawley Town in a 1-1 draw, Steve said: "As they (Crawley) have broken down the left-hand side he has got to position himself at his near post area because there is the potential of the shot or the cut back.

"It is cut back and if you watch him, he has got across that goal and out to press that ball. He has got in the forward’s face very quickly and he has shown that bravery to stand big and block that ball."

Speaking about Jonny's best save - one against his former club Forest Green Rovers on his Football League debut - Steve said: "The ball was whipped in with quite a lot of pace. His speed across the goal was fantastic and he has literally spread himself as big as he can, almost Schmeichel-esque if you like, and he has got something on it and kept the ball out.”
