MATCH PREVIEW:
It is a Devon Derby under the lights this Thursday, with a visit to local rivals Buckland Athletic. City picked up all three points in their Season opener on Sunday, whereas Head Coach Jamie Phillip will be hoping his side can bounce back from a 5-1 defeat at Southampton. Last Season the teams fought out two exciting games, City winning 3-2 in September, whilst the trip to Homers Heath in February finished 5-2 to the visitors. Abbie Britton was on target in both of the games for the Reds.
Buckland have two former Grecian's providing key roles in their set up. Abbi Bond Captain's the side this season and her commanding presence in goal is a difficulty City will have to overcome. Zoe Cunningham is partnered by Courtney Butt, another former Grecian, in midfield, both technically gifted footballers who will make the middle of the pitch a key area to win for both sides. Sarah Stacey will offer the main goalscoring threat, a natural finisher, it will be up to the City defence to keep her chances at a minimum.
The Management team at Homers Heath have had a busy summer of recruitment. Mollie Taylor, Tash Knapman and Cunningham all joined the Club from Devon neighbours Plymouth Argyle. Meg Wood signed from Yeovil Town and Hana Bennett made the move from MAP. Bennett another with former Exeter connections. Mollie Taylor picked up the Player of the Match award for Buckland's opening league game so there are signs that the new arrivals are making their mark already.
With both team's hoping to improve on weekend performances, this looks set to be keenly fought contest with both bragging rights and an all important three points there for the taking.
