Tuesday evening's win against Bristol Rovers in the Papa John's Trophy was a big moment as he finally made his Grecians debut having signed for the club in January.
Having been hampered with injury since signing, Stubbs completed a strong 45 minutes that saw City 5-0 up at the break to mark his first Exeter City minutes.
"I'm really happy. It's been really tough after some setbacks. I'm recovered now and we'll see how it settles," he said.
"Tonight just shows how well the boys are doing at the moment so it's a credit to the club and to the boys.
"It was nice going in at half time with a clean sheet for myself.
"I was thinking a little bit about my setbacks today. It was tough, but I knew I had two options, be negative and let it get on top of me or be positive, so I knew I had to be positive."
