Defender Sam Stubbs has given his thoughts after the Grecians were beaten on penalties at Gillingham in the Carabao Cup second round.
Stubbs played his second full 90 minutes of the season, and despite a resolute defensive performance, City couldn't find a breakthrough against a Gillingham side who themselves showed great resolve at the back.
"If we're honest, we're disappointed in ourselves," Stubbs said.
"We're were a little bit off it tonight, we would have liked to impose ourselves a bit more. There's no excuses, we need to be better.
"We will do what we have always done and we'll get together and train hard to put things right."
