Thanks to club sponsor, Carpetright, two more south west sports teams have each received donations of £500.
And there’s still time to enter following our victory over Stevenage at the weekend - just email Carpetright with information about your club or team and why they deserve to win.
The winners selected following our Swindon match are Exeter City Water Polo Club, who will use the donation to buysome floating junior goals for their recently established mini water polo team, who are aged from seven to nine years old.
Nicci Morgan, committee member and team manager for Exeter City Water Polo Club, said: “These youngsters really deserve to experience the active fun and benefits of being part of a team after the past couple of very difficult years of lockdowns and curtailed opportunities.”
Exeter City Water Polo is a well-established club with a long heritage and the ability to produce elite level athletes. It competes in the local Devon league, the Bristol & West Leagues and at National level from under 13s to its senior men's and women’s' teams. For years the club has trained and played matches at the Pyramids swimming pool in Exeter, but will be moving to the new facility at St Sidwell's Point from its opening in April.
Nicci added: “We have worked hard to literally keep our club afloat during the Covid period and feel that we, as a community, need to do our utmost to provide children, young people and adults in the south west the opportunity to increase their physical and mental well-being and publicise the less well-known but hugely challenging (and fun!) sport of water polo.”
Barnstaple under-11s football team were the winners selected from the win against Crawley on March 15. Pete Light, the group’s manager/coach, said the donation would be used to buy new kit, adding: “The under 11s need a new kit as their kit is getting old. They are a good bunch of boys that love to have fun and enjoy playing football.”
