David Perkins has given his first interview after being appointed City's first team and under-23s coach.
Former midfielder David joins the club with a weath of experience having only recently retired and made over 700 career appearances from Championship level to National League level at clubs including Barnsley, Blackpool and Wigan and most recently at AFC Fylde.
David was manager Gary Caldwell's first signing as manager of Wigan and went on to be their player of the season as they were promoted back to the Championship.
David joins having had experience as a player coach at AFC Fydle and also working with the under-16s at Blackpool and is delighted with the opportunity with the Grecians.
"It's a brilliant opportunity for me and it's been fantastic so far. Over the years I've kept in touch with Gary and when I got the job we had a conversation and he invited me down and I really liked it and with Gary being one of my best managers it was an easy decision."
Speaking about his experiences as a player, David said: "I've worked at every level of football and I know what it take to get to the Championship, hard work, doing the right things and being profesional - that is what I based my playing career on and hopefully I can take that into my coaching career."
On his coaching career so far David added: "The manger at AFC Fylde was off with a heart condition so I stepped up there as first team coach and Nick Chadwick took charge, we worked for fourteen weeks together and really enjoyed that - i've always enjoyed the tactical side of the game.
"Recently I've worked at Blackpool under-16s which I really enjoyed. I'm willing to learn as much as I can like in my playing career.
