đź“ť Women's Match Preview: Torquay United (A)

Exeter City Women take a break from league action this weekend as they travel to Coach Road to face Torquay United in the Devon County Cup Quarter Final.

Steve Elswood’s team have enjoyed a strong start to the new season, overcoming an opening day defeat at Sherborne to record four straight victories. It was an interesting summer for the Yellows, with the departure of Beth Everson and midfielder Katie Barriball to St Austell, Esme Kilburn-Thompson to the US and, initially, Emma Hunt and Ocean Latto to the Grecians. However, with the season now underway Elswood has been able to keep the core of last year's squad together and build on it with the quality additions, such as former City forward Mia Preston.

These two teams met in last year’s final, a late Connie Pengelly goal looked to have secured the trophy, but an even later penalty took the game into a shootout in which Sasha Mole was the hero for Torquay with some key saves.

Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side have enjoyed an excellent week with two strong performances on the road and will be keen to build on that momentum, however, with that busy week in mind and a huge FA Cup tie next week, there may be a strong temptation to rotate the squad. Whilst the County Cup may not be at the top of City’s priorities this season, they will certainly be keen to overcome Torquay on Sunday after the disappointment of last season’s final.
