Gary Caldwell has given his assessment as City fought from behind twice to salvage a 2-2 draw at Fleetwood in stoppage time.
Pierce Sweeney's 91st minute effort meant City took a point back to Devon, with Kevin McDonald also on target for the Grecians.
"I think that was a fair result. We can't defend like that an expect to win a game of football," Caldwell said of the manner in which his side conceded twice to Jack Marriott.
"We lost two poor goals and looked loose on first contact and second balls. But some of our build up play was excellent in the final third and we're please to have come away from home and scored two goals.
"I'm delighted with the players character. They kept going and they found a way to not be beaten today."
