đź“ť Women's Match Preview: Swindon Town (H)

Exeter City Women go into their final game of the season knowing that a win is needed to give the team the best possible chance of promotion glory.

Victory for Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side on Sunday and points dropped by Cardiff City in their fixture with Southampton Women’s FC would see the title race decided in the Grecians’ favor.

However, before all of that, the considerable challenge of Swindon Town and their talented squad. Mike Cook has taken the reigns in recent weeks, the team picking up a point at home to Portishead Town whilst suffering defeats against the Grecians and Cardiff City. Town have a number of talented players to be aware of, none more so than leading goal scorer Annabelle Colston, creative midfielder Megan Attenborough and Goalkeeper Emily McGrogan.

The two teams met three weeks ago at Fairford, a cagey opening broken by a Mollie Taylor goal, before further strikes from Jenna Markham, Zoe Watkins and Sarah Stacey gave City the points. Town will be travelling for the first time in a month after five successive home fixtures and will be keen to finish on a high in front of their new Manager.

Frustration for everyone, none more so than Cardiff City and Moneyfields that Thursday’s game was postponed. It means that the title race could now spill into the extended week of the season. For City the focus is simple, as it has been for several months now, control the controllable, win Sunday’s game and then see what happens elsewhere. Sunday may not be the grand finale many had hoped for, but it could still be an afternoon in which the Grecians celebrate promotion. Don’t miss it!
