Gary Caldwell has given his reaction as the Grecians were held to a goalless draw at home to Shrewsbury Town.
City dominated the possession under the SJP lights but unable to make the breakthrough, having to settle for a point against a side who had won their previous six matches.
"It was very similar to Saturday, we had a lot of control and changed the shape," he said.
"The opportunities we created weren't chances but we got in the areas that meant we had an other go in the final third. That is the area we need to work on and we need to improve, but I think we're controlling games much better.
"The players effort, given they had one training session with the new shape, was excellent. Shrewsbury are a physical team and they put you under pressure, so I felt if we matched them up it would be a 50/50 game.
"By bring both full-backs up the pitch it allowed us to stretch their last line."
