Defender Jonathan Grounds has expressed his disappointment as the Grecians were beaten 1-0 at Port Vale on Saturday.
"We've come here today and we haven't shown up," he said following the match, which was decided in a pivotal 60 second period that saw Rekeem Harper sent off before Will Forrester fired in the Vale winner.
"We lost far too many duels in the game, not been able to gain any territory at all, and conceded a really bad goal.
"It's difficult going down to ten but you hope it brings the team together. At ten men we probably we started doing the wrong things, probably played too much football in the wrong areas.
"I don't know whether it was a situation of thinking we have nothing to lose."
