Gary Caldwell has given his reaction as the Grecians picked up their third away win in four matches at MK Dons.
Jevani Brown's brace secured City's first double of the season with a goal in each half, and Caldwell was pleased with the performance of his side.
"This is a difficult place to come and the pitch is a little heavy, we saw a lot of players going down with cramp because of that," he said.
"We knew MK Dons would be a threat in the first 20 minutes, and we came through that, then in the second half there was only going to be one winner.
"It wasn't a great game but as a football club these are the games we have to be winning. We showed character, resilience, and as the game went on our quality improved, and we looked a threat. We could have scored more."
