✍️ Joe White signs on loan

Exeter City are delighted to announce the loan signing of Joe White from Premier League side Newcastle United.

Highly-rated midfielder Joe, makes the move from St. James’ Park to St James Park until the end of the 22/23 League One season to link up with Gary Caldwell who worked with Joe as Newcastle’s interim U23s coach in 2021.

The 20-year-old started his career at hometown club Carlisle United before moving to the Magpies in 2016. Joe gained his first experience in the Football League last season, having spent the second half on loan at Hartlepool in League Two, where he made sixteen appearances, scoring once. Joe has also represented England at under-18 level.

Joe has been training with the first-team squad at Newcastle and featured in the first team friendly match against Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia last month.

Speaking about bringing Joe to Devon, Gary Caldwell said: "Joe is someone I got to know when I was at Newcastle United U23s for a short period of time. Straight away I noticed he was a player of real quality, he stood out and he has wonderful dribbling skills and a wonderful left foot.

"Since then he has been on loan at Hartlepool United and has gained important first team experience and he's now at an age and time in his career where he is really ready to impact a first team and he will be great competition for the midfield and attacking midfielders in the squad.

Speaking about making the move, Joe said: "I can’t wait, obviously first team football at a really good level, in a really good team, so yeah I can’t wait to get started training and get on the pitch.

"I am a creative midfielder, like to take people on with the ball, play in tight spaces, work and combine with others and I like to make the final action whether that’s assists or goals."

Welcome to St James Park, Joe!
