✍️ Sweeney, 2026!

Pierce Sweeney, 26. That’s 2026!

Yes, we’re delighted to announce that Pierce Sweeney has signed a two contract extension to take him through to the end of the 2025/26 season, which will see him reach ten years as a Grecian.

Having been at the club since the 2016, Sweeney surpassed 300 appearances in red and white in January 2023. Originally the fan-funded 1931 player in his debut season, having signed following a trial, Sweens has become a fan-favourite and is part of the furniture at SJP. His commitment to the club is clear with the latest deal.

As vice-captain to Matt Jay, Sweeney played a pivotal part in City 2021/22 League Two promotion winning campaign and currently sits on 21 goals for the Grecians – two of which came in last season’s first League One campaign in ten years.

Gary Caldwell said: "Sweens has been first class since I came to the club and he has helped in so many ways.

"Off the park, he has been a fantastic help to me, the staff, and to every player who comes to this football club. He really understands the fabric of this club and what is means to play for Exeter City.

"We are delighted to sign him up. It's something that has building up. Sweens would be the first to tell you, we are very challenging for him and really pushed him, and I think he is coming into his peak as a centre half. There is still so much more to come from him and he has taken all of it onboard.

"He has trained extremely well and looks in great condition to be ready for the season.”
