💬 Pierce Sweeney on his new deal

Pierce Sweeney is here to stay following a contract extension which will take him to 2026 and his tenth year as a Grecian.

Speaking of his delight at committing his future to the club that he signed for in 2016, he couldn't be more excited.

"I'm so happy to get this done, I'm part of the furniture at this football club! It was a no brainer for me really," he said.

"I never had any other thought in my mind other than to stay here for the foreseeable future with this management and coaching staff and this club.

"It'll take me to ten years as a first team player and that will be really special. You don't see that often in football, it's quite unique. Hopefully I can keep racking uo the games and then I'll be knocking on the chairman's door to get that testimonial sorted!

"This football club means a lot to me. When you've been here for so long, you half become a fan. When you've played 320 odd games, you become attached. You're attached to the fans, to the little kids running round asking for photos.

"I know 95% of the people that work at this club so it means a little but more to someone who has been here a few weeks. I have to step into that role and share the knowledge of what this football club is about. That's what the management wants me to do.

"It means a lot to me and my family to live down here. My kids were bron in Exeter, it means a lot, it's special."
