đź“ť Women's Match Preview: Maidenhead United Women (H)

Exeter City Women return to action this weekend as Maidenhead United are the visitors to the Exwick Hub on Sunday (2pm KO) for a crucial National League contest.

The Magpies have endured a tough campaign, however after starting the season late and losing their first four games, Ed Jackson-Sankey will be content with the team's position, sitting above the drop zone with a comfortable nine-point cushion. Maidenhead’s 2023 has seen a significant improvement in form, winning four of their nine fixtures and losing only three. Wins on the road at Larkhall Atheltic and Selsey have been supported with home points gained against St Austell and the weekend’s draw with Southampton Women’s FC.

Natalie Cowell and Imogen Fisher have provided the main goal threat for Jackson-Sankey's side, Cowell with eight goals and Fisher with seven. The two teams have met twice already this season, the Grecians winning a league cup tie at the Hub by three goals to one thanks to a Connie Pengelly double and a Zoe Watkins penalty. It was more comprehensive for City in Berkshire, Jenna Markham (2), Sarah Stacey, Zoe Watkins and an own goal giving Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side a five-goal victory.

A two week break since the excitement of St James Park, the final month of the season has arrived and it’s all to play for. City lead Cardiff by a six-point margin, however the Welsh side have two games in hand and will be aiming to close that gap in the coming weeks. A resurgent Maidenhead are first up in this crucial spell and the Grecians will be hoping for a big crowd to cheer them on to a big three points in the race for the title.
