Exeter City Women return to St James Park on Sunday afternoon as they welcome Moneyfields in an exciting National League fixture.
The Hampshire side have enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning four games and progressing in the League Cup with a penalty shootout victory over Queens Park Rangers. Comfortable league wins over Torquay United, Portishead Town and Selsey have the Moneys sat level with the Grecians on nine points. Victories by big margins sees a healthy fight at the top of the scorers list for Karl Watson’s side, Charley Wilson-Wilton and Chelsie Hay leading the way with six goals.
Watson’s side finished a strong third in last season’s table and have moved to strengthen their ranks over the summer. Tash Wild and Amber Howden joined from Selsey whilst Kiera Heslam arrives after previous spells with Huddersfield and Southampton Womens FC.
The two sides enjoyed competitive fixtures last season, a Becky Dandridge goal earning a hard-earned point in Hampshire whilst it was a clinical City performance at the Hub as they won 5-2 in an entertaining contest.
This year’s South West Division looks strongly divided, with four teams already standing out significantly above the others. Whilst this game will again provide an opportunity to showcase the Women’s game in Exeter, the desire for three points will be vital as there is no doubt that Moneyfields will be in the title race this season alongside the Grecians.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side go into the contest in good form themselves and with Zoe Cunningham and Beth Ireland returning, there is a strong squad for the City management to choose from. Two of the division's strongest sides colliding at St James Park in front of an anticipated big crowd, this is one not to be missed.
