Exeter City Women head to Keynsham Town on Sunday, knowing a tough test awaits them with Barrie Newton’s side taking AFC Bournemouth to a draw in their previous league fixture.
Keynsham have enjoyed an excellent season, already gaining a further six points than their season’s total in 2022/23 and in contention for a third placed finish. Two defeats in the last nine underline the strength of recent form, a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium the most eye catching of The K’s recent results.
With plenty of experience through the Town side, Naomi Clipston has been in excellent form this season, hitting seventeen goals in all competitions. Clipston has been supported by Vicky Vipond, an impressive fourteen goals in her eighteen games this campaign, including the opening goal at AFC Bournemouth.
Charlotte Haynes continues to showcase her talent at this level, the Goalkeeper winning nine Player of the Match awards and will be a force of resistance for the Grecians at the weekend.
The two sides met back in November at the Exwick Sports Hub, Sarah Stacey giving City the lead before Hannah Price equalised. A last flurry of goals on the stroke of half time from Ishbel Zuurmond, Jenna Markham and Bow Jackson gave City the lead at the break, before Stacey and Clipston added a goal apiece in the second half as the Grecians ran out 5-2 victors.
Nothing but a win will do for Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side if they want to maintain their narrow advantage at the top of the division, with Portishead Town coming up on Wednesday, this is set to be a crucial week in the season and a significant chance to edge closer to the league title.
