City Women’s manager Abbie Britton has given her thoughts as the team gear up to face MK Dons at St James Park in their maiden tier three outing.

Making their first ever appearance in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier after promotion last term, the match against the Dons is the first of four straight matches at the main stadium for the Grecian women, after a hard-working pre-season for the team.

“It’s been a long time coming for me personally to manager in this league and I’m really excited for the girls and for the club, as they have all worked very hard to get to this point.”

“We had some great wins in pre-season but the best thing that happened to us was losing to Moneyfields as it really put a few people in places and gave me an idea of where we needed to go. Following that it was a transformation from when we got back on the bus and we had a fantastic result at Bournemouth and at Swansea.

“We had added some real experience to the squad who are really talented, such as Rebecca Dandridge and her pedigree, plus Courtney Jones who has bags of experience in tier three and Jas Read who is a really talented goalkeeper.”
