Following City's 1-1 draw away at Peterborough United, Gary Caldwell shared his thoughts.
Millenic Alli's stoppage time equaliser earned the Grecians a point, in a game where the manager was pleased with his players for never giving up.
"I thought the players were brilliant in the second half, we kept going," said Gary.
"The first half we weren't good enough and we gave them a goal start which was always going to make the game really difficult. Second half we were in total control, totally dominated, didn't create enough with the possession we had, but it's not easy, we made six changes."
Injuries and suspension forced City into making several changes to his team, causing a slight disruption to the Grecians' preparation.
"We're at a really difficult moment in terms of player availability for the group, we lost Tristan last week, we lost Johnly the same day, so defensively really stretched.
"Then Jack McMillan gets sent off, Vinnie gets a head knock, Caleb misses out through a calf problem so to come here, be a goal down and be as stretched as we are I think the players deserve a lot of credit."
