Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts as City prepare for the League One curtain raiser at St James Park against Rotherham United on Saturday.

The Millers are one of the favourites for an instant return to the Championship, hotly tipped under manager Steve Evans who returned to the club as manager at the end of last season.

"They are a really strong team who have come down from the Championship and spent a fair bit of money," Gary said of the South Yorkshire side.

"They have spent it wisely and have a strong squad with a fantastic manager who knows how to get out of this league and win promotion. I have no doubt they will be one of the favourites."

"They have to win the league or get promotion and brings a certain pressure on them, but we have to believe we can beat this teams and we are very clear of our identity."

"We certainly should not fear any team in this league and we look forward to the challenges of the bigger clubs like Rotherham. The early games we face similar teams, and we are really looking forward to it.

"What Steve does - I really respect him - is he builds successful and winning teams and I don't expect them to be much different from what he did at Stevenage. They will be hard to play against."
