Gary Caldwell has expressed his disappointment following the Grecians' 3-1 defeat to Crawley Town on Easter Monday.
Three goals inside the first 23 minutes for the hosts decided the game, though Caleb Watts pulled one back a few minutes later to give City hope. It was a lacklustre performance from Caldwell side, who felt some players did not grasp opportunities.
"We knew they had everything to play for and tried to be prepared for a quick start with a home crowd right behind them and we played straight into their hands.
"We played too quick and lost control of the game and then gaveaway some shocking goals and then after that we had a mountain to climb. After that we tried, but it was too little too late.
"We were far too loose and yes we made changes today and gave players opportunities, but I've just said to them that you don't get many opportunities in football and you have to grab it when you do.
"Too many players didn't do enough today and we have to look at that for next Saturday and into next season."
