Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts as the Grecians suffered a second consecutive 2-0 home defeat to promotion chasers.
Stockport County scored twice before the 22nd minute to secure three points in Devon, as Kyle Wootton bagged a brace for the Hatters. City were dealt two injury blows as they lost both Pat Jones and Ed Turns in the second half.
"Stockport are a team who know how to win games and they just shut up shop and made it hard for us to break down and then in the second half there was nothing in the game. We never threatened or gave any effort in the second half.
"I picked the wrong team today and I accept my responsibility for that. I've also asked the players to look at themselves individually.
"I chose the wrong players. It's been difficult with Saturday-Tuesday, as you saw with Pat coming on and then him pulling up, we are trying to manage the group.
"Too many players didn't take their opportunity today, but I do take responsibility."
