Following City's 2-0 defeat at home against Stockport County, Ryan Woods gave his view on the match.
The midfielder came back into the squad and was introduced early on as the Grecians looked to respond to two early goals.
"Obviously we started the game really slowly, concede one poor goal and then another soon after which makes it difficult to get back into the game," said Ryan. "To look at it positively after that we have control of the ball, especially up until half-time, but we don't cause them enough problems with it.
"I think if anyone was going to score a goal it would probably be us because of the control we were having, but I don't think the performance is good enough if I'm being honest, especially after a good performance at Barnsley away."
Ryan returned to the squad after being absent for a couple of matches, something which he admitted had been tough.
"It's been a tough few weeks for me, but that's football, I've done my hardest to get my head down, work hard, stay as fit as possible so that when these moments arrive to come and help the team and get some control, I've got to be ready for that."
