Assistant Manager Kevin Nicholson has given his thoughts before City face Peterborough United this Saturday.
Following the Grecians’ defeat at Northampton last Saturday, City will be looking for a reaction on the pitch after a match where they played well but lacked that cutting edge.
“We’re after the final bit really,” Kevin said. “I thought the performance at Northampton was good, certainly in the middle part of the pitch.”
“It would be take more care in the final third when we get the opportunity to put the ball in, take more care when your final pass might be leading to an opportunity to shoot and score.
This weekend’s opponents are another team that will be likely competing at the top end of the division this season, and while they have their strengths, Kevin backs the team against any side in the division.
“What I really admire about Peterborough and what I really like about them as a club and a team is that they have an identity, they have a way that they play. They recruit a profile of player that suits that as well, they recruit young and they’re very active in the non-league circuit.
“They’re looking around for those hidden gems and they tend to get them in, work with them and build them up. Although they’ve lost players in key positions, they’ve replaced them almost like-for-like in terms of pace at wide and at the top.
“We’ll back ourselves to compete against everybody in the league though, we know there’s certain disadvantages and advantages we have when we go in against these teams.”
