ECFC is excited to be taking part in the Green Football Cup again in 2025, after a top ten finish in the table last year thanks to you, Grecians!
Exeter City Women's match against Cheltenham Town at SJP this Sunday and the Men's match against Wrexham on Saturday, March 29 at SJP are our dedicated 'Green Football Weekend' matches, where we unleash the passion of the football community to tackle climate change and protect nature, uniting fans, clubs, players, pundits, broadcasters, grassroots teams and schools.
With climate change threatening the future of football, we need action to protect the game we love.
What is it?!
The Green Football Cup is an annual competition where fans pledge to take small environmental actions. By donating old kits and making sustainable pledges, your efforts earn us points and climb the Green Football Cup league table. By recording your goal, you’ll also be entered to win prizes including a year of Sky Sports.
How to score goals for ECFC:
1. Donate, sell or reuse your old kit
Got old football shirts, boots, or kit? Don’t let them end up in landfill. Pass them on. Donate at our Green Football Great Save bins on matchdays at the club. Every kit saved and logged on greenfootball.org scores a goal for us in the Green Football Cup.
2. Take climate-friendly actions
You can also take other climate-friendly actions, like using public transport more often. You can also commit to taking actions in the future through pledging.
Why does it matter?
Climate change is already affecting football. 120,000 grassroots matches are cancelled due to flooding every year. Clothing sent to landfill takes decades to break down and generates methane emissions—a powerful greenhouse gas which fuels climate change. 100,000 tonnes of sportswear end up in UK landfills every year. That’s like throwing away 951 football shirts every minute.
So, what are you waiting for?...score a goal and win!
Head to www.greenfootball.org to log your action and enter the prize draw. You could win:
- 12 months’ free Sky Sports and Ultra Boost
- Tickets to the Sky Bet Championship Play-off Final at Wembley
- A signed 23/24 Lionesses shirt
- And more!
