Dougie to spend a stint with the Wings
Recent signing Doug Bergqvist has joined Welling United on loan until January.
The 20-year-old defender was brought into the club last week, with the intention of allowing him to be loaned out immediately to last year’s Conference South champions. The Wings stormed the division last season en route to promotion – including a run of 12 consecutive league victories – and now Doug will ply his trade at Park View Road with that side until the turn of the year.
Now that the paperwork has all been completed, Paul Tisdale said that it was a frugal way of adding a promising young player to the Exeter City ranks following his Aldershot departure.
“We’ve known about for Dougie for a while – he played for Garry Haylock at Farnborough on loan, and we’ve seen him a number of times and he’s a very good young player,” said Tis.
“We couldn’t afford to bring another young player in, but to be able to tie it in with a loan to Welling until January means that we’ve been able to bring another good young player into the ranks with potential.
“He won’t be available to us until January – that arrangement was made over the weekend when we were completing the signing. It seems a sensible thing to do – it gives us an opportunity for him to join us in January potentially, whilst playing some Conference football along the way.
“He’s going to be a very good, exciting young defender.”
