Striker vying for the League 2 gong
Exeter City striker Jamie Cureton has been named as one of three footballers on the shortlist for npower League 2 Player of the Year.
With 20 goals to his name this season already, Curo has been a thorn in the side for every opposition manager. But they clearly admired what they saw – the shortlist was drawn up from votes from other managers in npower League 2.
The npower League 2 Player of the Year award is one of 17 awards that will be announced at the Football League Awards gala ceremony at The Brewery, London on Sunday 24th March.
A ‘top 10’ from each division will also be announced after the Football League Awards, based on managers’ votes.
Cureton faces some stiff competition for the prize. The shortlist for the npower League 2 Player of the Year award is as follows:
• Jamie Cureton – Exeter City
• Gary Jones – Bradford City
• Tom Pope – Port Vale
Bradford City captain Gary Jones played an instrumental part in the Bantams’ magnificent Capital One Cup run, which saw them face Premier League side Swansea City in the final.
Meanwhile Tom Pope has been a constant goal-threat for Port Vale – currently leading the League 2 charts with 25 goals – and has helped to elevate his hometown club into second in the division.
