Grant an unused substitute as Jamaica fall to defeat in Copa América Centenario opener
EXETER CITY winger Joel Grant was an unused substitute for Jamaica as the Reggae Boyz fell to a 1-0 defeat in their Group C opener against Venezuela on Sunday.Grant, who received a late call-up to the squad after scoring the winning goal for Jamaica in a friendly against tournament-holders Chile last month, watched from the sidelines as Josef Martinez’ strike in the fifteenth minute proved the difference between the two sides. Former Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin’s dismissal for a strong challenge mid-way through the first half compounded the Reggae Boyz’ chances of mounting a second-half comeback.
Up next for Jamaica is Mexico on June 9 as they look to get their Copa América campaign back on track - a match which could see Grant become City’s most capped player whilst based at St James Park. He is the fourth City player to win an international cap whilst still with the Grecians.
