City's skipper against Norwich City Ed James was proud of the character shown by his teammates during the Grecians' 2-1 win in the Premier League Cup.
The Grecians took the lead early in the second half through an own goal but it looked like Norwich had stolen a point when they equalised two minutes from time, but Theo Cutler's late winner bagged another plus three for City.
"The boys put in a brilliant shift, for most of the game we were controlling it, really good in possession," Ed said.
"When the game got tough at the end we showed our character and stayed in the game, so overall a really good three points.
"I thought our build-up play was brilliant from the back, we got in their final third lots of times and created really good chances throughout the game."
